LOG HOME REPAIR

Got a bad log?
All homes, at some point in time, will need some type of repair or at least a face lift and log homes are no exception to this rule.

During just the last 5 years we have replaced over 5,500 feet of logs on distressed log homes and brought them back to their former beauty.

The type or style of logs is of little concern, as we can replace any type of log. In addition to log replacement we can bleach or sandblast your log home to remove old sealers or gray stain and to bring back the natural beauty of the logs. It also blends the replaced logs with the original logs, giving the home a more uniform look.

Call us to schedule a repair estimate and we will send one of our employees to your home to inspect each log to determine how much needs to be replaced and also to decide what type and style of log your home has. The charge for a repair estimate is $75 to $125, based on the distance from our office, and includes a written estimate.

INSULATION & MAINTENANCE

Even today wood remains the most coveted building material, universally loved for its beauty, its warmth and its naturalness. Wood is made up of thousands of hollow cells, called cellulose fibers and is bonded together with a natural glue called lignin. It is bonded so tightly it was once considered a single substance. No other building material is structured this way. A block of wood just 1 inch square and 2 1/4 inches long can support 10,000 lbs. Actually, pound for pound wood is stronger than steel.
Wood is also a natural insulator. It would take a concrete wall 5 feet thick to equal the insulating value of 4” of wood. Wood insulates 6 times better than brick, 15 times better than concrete and an astonishing 1770 times better than aluminum. Why is wood superior in insulating? Wood cells contains millions of tiny air spaces and air is one of the best insulators know. This is why surrounding yourself with wood can mean substantial savings on your heating and cooling bills.

All log homes require some form of exterior sealer to protect the wood from pest and the elements. There are all kinds of products on the market that protect your logs. When making your choice of exterior sealer it is important to choose a product that is specifically for house logs. We use Woodguard on our homes. When we build a home we will apply your first coat of Woodguard sealer generally with a Honey color pigment. This first coat will last 1 to 3 years and then you will need to apply the second coat. The second coat and additional coats thereafter will last 3 to 5 years.

In addition to the sealer your home will need to be examined periodically for caulk separation in the seams and checks and to reapply caulk as needed.
